Succession follows the Roy siblings, heirs to the multibillion-dollar media empire that their elderly father, Logan Roy, founded and is currently in charge of. His health is declining, and the siblings are unsure which of them will be named his successor. Tensions between the family members and other inner-circle employees rise and fall throughout the series, all vying for different reasons to take over the company when Logan passes away. This series has been critically acclaimed for its writing, acting, music, and production value, all of which are top-notch. The writing is so clever, and each of the actors brings their all to their performances, which result in a dramedy series that will have you holding your breath because of the tension and drama in one scene, and letting it out in laughter because of something one of the characters say or do in the next scene. None of these characters are perfect; just when you think you start to like or understand one of them, they’ll do something awful, and you’ll be unable to stand them for the rest of the episode. The fun of watching this series is witnessing the absurdity of the ultrarich and the ways they are so out of touch with the rest of the world when all they care about are themselves and their own interests. The story is incredibly compelling, as you watch the power dynamics change over the course of the four seasons and the ways the characters develop, personally and in relation to one another. This series is widely loved and highly awarded for good reasons – it’s one of the best television shows of the past several years.
