We’ve all heard the term “work-life balance” and strive to strike that balance in our own lives. However, what if there was a way to totally separate the two? In the world of this television series, the Lumon corporation has perfected this science, and employees can choose to undergo the severance procedure: while at work, they know nothing about their personal lives, and when they’re out of the office, they don’t remember anything about how they earn their living. This series follows the four staff members of the Macrodata Refinement Department – Mark, Irving, Dylan, and newcomer Helly – as their out-of-work selves, or “outies,” begin to wonder what exactly it is that they do at Lumon, and their work-selves, their “innies,” as they start to wish for lives outside of their office. This series has been praised for its writing, acting, and quality of the production, all of which are spectacular. It is so easy to become invested in the mystery of this series and the tension that develops as these characters search for answers and fight against the ways they’re treated by their company. The relationships the central four all cultivate with each other and the other people in their lives, both at work and outside of it, are fascinating to see develop, and will keep you hooked throughout each episode. Season two recently finished airing, so now is the perfect time to start with season one to find out why so many people absolutely love this show.
