I just recently dove into the fantasy genre and have been reading Brandon Sanderson for the last year. By recommendation of a good a friend, I decided to try the Broken Earth Trilogy, which includes The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky. This storyline is very unique and reads like nothing I’ve ever read before. The story is told in first-, second-, and third-person format and jumps back and forth on the timeline. At first it was a bit confusing on where I was within the timeline of the story, but shortly after the first couple of chapters in The Fifth Season, I was tracking along and really into it. I found these books difficult to put down. I quickly felt connected to the characters and felt as though I was on this apocalyptic journey with them. I recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy novels, but also seeks out a twist to the normal expectations of fantasy.
