WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., has announced a contest to name the 2025 Summer Learning tiger plush mascot.

During the 2024 Summer Learning program, the James V. Brown Library introduced Orange the Library Lion, a plush lion who became the mascot for last year’s event.

This year, a friend of Orange’s has come to town, a tiger who is in need of a name. Unlike last year, when Orange’s name came from the name of the founder’s brother, the Library is asking the community to help. All ages are invited to visit a Library Help Desk or jvbrown.edu to submit their name idea for the new friend.

Name submissions will be accepted from May 1 to June 6. Library staff will select the winning name from those submitted. To submit a name, click here or stop by either Help Desk at the Library.

The winning name will be announced on June 14 as part of the Summer Learning Kickoff activities at the Library. The person who submits the winning name will receive a $30 gift certificate to either Mulberry Moose or Otto Bookstore, along with a tiger to take home.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To place a hold, visit www.jvbrown.edu or call 570-326-0536 during the library’s operating hours. Walk-in passport services are available from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
