Three senior London ladies embark on a present-day road trip in a motorhome through Europe, each with an intention: Connie hopes to learn more about her Italian ancestors, Gill seeks a late-in-life romance, and Maggie has left a bad relationship (and is hiding a huge secret in her undies!). Descriptions of the famous cities in Spain and Italy, the food and drinks the women consume, and the clothing and souvenirs they purchase along the way are so vivid you feel as though you are along for the ride. The story is very British, very funny, and truly inspiring; sort of an 80 for Brady/The Book Club/Grace & Frankie mashup, proving that women of any age can form meaningful friendships, create adventures, and find a new purpose in life. For me this was a can’t-put-it-down-weekend-read, and would be great on a summer/beach reading list.
