I’m continuing my journey into the works of Neil Gaiman with one of his more recent. Norse Mythology is a collection of stories retold with Neil Gaiman’s signature prose and atmospheric writing. I enjoyed the reintroduction to characters I had been aware of before, such as Odin, Thor, and Loki, as well as those I wasn’t as familiar with. Gaiman does a great job of laying the groundwork for the world and those who inhabit it within the first few chapters. Each following story offers well realized characterizations of the gods, giants, dwarves, and other beings prevalent throughout the tales, without becoming too complex or feeling like a textbook. I highly recommend it for those who are a fan of Neil Gaiman’s writing style, or those who have an interest in the characters and worlds featured in Norse mythology.
