The Weaver and the Witch Queen

As a fan of Gornichec’s debut novel, The Witch’s Heart, I was super excited to see this on our shelf. Her second book did not disappoint. Set in tenth century Norway, The Weaver and the Witch Queen follows Gunnhild and Oddny, two young women who are propelled to work together when Signy, Oddny’s sister, is kidnapped in a viking raid. Although they want very different things from life, Oddny and Gunnhild find out just how tightly woven their fates are as they set out to rescue Signy. As a card-carrying member of the Susquehanna Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild, I particularly loved the mentions of drop-spindling, and how it was tied in with the magical system in this book. Gornichec has produced a well-researched and wonderfully crafted book that tugs at the heartstrings (as well as the fatestrings).
