WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The James V. Brown Library is pleased to announce the appointment of two new team members: Katie Milliren (Right Photo) as Public Services Coordinator and Courtney Cizek (Left Photo) as Development, Marketing, and Public Relations Director. Together, they share a commitment to community connection and bring expertise in library services, communications, and public engagement.
Public Services Coordinator
In her new role, Milliren will lead the Library’s public service staff, serve as the primary resource for historical materials and archives, and develop methods to improve the delivery of quality library services.
Milliren’s background spans several areas of library and information work. She previously served as a Library Aide at the Hellertown Area Public Library and as an Exam Proctor at Lehigh Carbon Community College, supporting students from high school to college, GED students, and individuals with learning disabilities. Most recently, she worked as a Digitization Technician at Backstage Library Works in Bethlehem, Pa., preserving deteriorating collections from museums, historical centers, and libraries by creating digitized archival records to expand accessibility.
Milliren holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Shippensburg University and a Master of Library and Information Science from PennWest University.
“I’m excited to be in a public-facing position to support the community and make a difference firsthand,” Milliren said. “I’m passionate about helping people find the resources they are looking for, and I can’t wait to get to know this community.”
Outside of work, Milliren enjoys crocheting and reading.
Development, Marketing, and Public Relations
As Development, Marketing, and Public Relations Director, Cizek will expand upon advocacy in support of the library.
Cizek brings a background in journalism, nonprofit communications, and branding. As a Lifestyle Editor and Reporter at the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, she directed the editorial process from assignment through publication, writing stories that captured the heart of the local community. Previously, as Marketing and Executive Assistant for the Miele Group, she led branding and public relations efforts across multiple company brands, coordinated charitable giving, and supported grassroots advocacy.
She holds a dual Bachelor of Arts from Lycoming College in Photography/Digital Art and Corporate Communications.
“Libraries have always been a hub for communities, whether you’re getting involved in one of the many programs or browsing the collection. The library really is more than meets the eye, and there are incredible stories here to tell, and I’m honored to help share them,” Cizek said.
Beyond her professional work, Cizek is a member at Factory Works Clay Studio and volunteers with Angelina’s Song.
“Great libraries are built on genuine service and meaningful connections. Katie and Courtney both understand that philosophy and are driven by it. We’re excited to bring their skills to our organization,” said Amy Resh, Chief Executive Officer and Director of the James V. Brown Library.
