James V. Brown Library Board of Trustees Seeks New Life Trustee Following Gloria Greevy’s Distinguished Service

Gloria Z. GreevyWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., Board of Trustees is announcing the upcoming transition of Life Trustee, Gloria Z. Greevy, to Emeritus Trustee status and is inviting interested community members to apply to serve on the Board.

Gloria Greevy has served the Library with extraordinary dedication, leadership, and advocacy for more than a decade. During her tenure, she played an instrumental role in guiding the organization through some of the most pivotal moments in its history, including the COVID-19 pandemic and significant community challenges surrounding intellectual freedom and access to information.

In 2021, Greevy was awarded the prestigious Carile Brown Award in recognition of her dedication and leadership during the pandemic. The award specifically honored her efforts to help keep staff employed and engaged during temporary closures, as well as her steadfast support during a public censorship challenge that ultimately led to the Library being named Pennsylvania Library Association’s Library of the Year.

As a retired educator with decades of experience in the Williamsport Area School District, Greevy also brought extensive volunteer and community leadership experience to the Board, including service with numerous local nonprofit and civic organizations.

“Gloria’s passion for the Library and for this community has left a lasting impact on our organization,” said Brette Confair, President of the James V. Brown Library Board of Trustees. “Her leadership, especially during times of uncertainty, helped ensure the Library remained a strong and welcoming resource for our community.”

Confair added, “Our Board’s desire to reflect the community we serve while also honoring the wishes of James V. Brown makes the search for a new trustee a priority.”

The Board is now seeking community-minded individuals interested in helping guide the future of the James V. Brown Library. The Library’s Board of Trustees plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission, strategic direction, advocacy efforts, and long-term sustainability.
