Bridge of Clay

Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak

This is a tale of the five Dunbar brothers in Australia, narrated by Matthew, the eldest. Clay, brother number 4, is “the best of us,” according to Matthew, as they navigate life after their mother’s death and their father runs off. When their dad comes back and asks for help in building a bridge, this becomes a physical and symbolic bridge as the brothers seek to find out why their father disappeared. While this isn’t as good as Zusak’s The Book Thief, it still is a well-written tale about family.
