An antiquarian bookseller is captivated by a historic portrait whose subject has a striking resemblance to his lost love. The novel follows our bookseller as he explores time and the works of William Shakespeare to understand the portrait’s origins, and later, the truth about the Bard’s identity. This novel captivated me – it’s a terrific story that touches on love, loss, and the need to find answers. It is both a mystery and a story about longing. If you enjoyed People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks or The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, you will enjoy the story that unfolds in these pages.
