WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – February is the month of love because of Valentine’s Day and Library Lovers Month!

Libraries provide community members of all ages with education programs, computers, Wi-Fi, outreach, and other resources that may not be accessible or affordable. They focus on topics that expand knowledge of financial literacy, civic and social literacy, health literacy, information literacy, and basic literacy.

Without libraries, homeschooled families would not be able to access key resources for lessons. Teens would not have a safe place for after-school programs, and preschoolers would have limited access to books that are needed for literacy development.

There are several ways that you can show your love for the James V. Brown Library:

Contribute – Consider a tax-deductible gift to the James V. Brown Library, or you can:

  • Honor a friend or relative’s birthday through the “Own-A-Day” program.
  • Donate your time and expertise to your library by facilitating an adult educational program.
  • Support the Friends of the Library by shopping at the Friends Bookstore on the third floor of the Welch Wing or attending their next book sale, which is April 24-26 at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry St.
  • Volunteer your time helping shelve books, games, toys, and movies.

Be a Friend – Join the Friends of the James V. Brown Library, an independent group of volunteers who provide fundraising and other assistance. As a member, you will be informed about library funding issues.

  • Donate your used books to the Friends of the James V. Brown Library.
  • Give the gift of membership to a friend or relative.
  • Volunteer to work in the Friends Library Bookstore or book sale.

This month, show how much you appreciate all libraries can do for you and in your community.
