An English class assignment becomes a passion project for teen Laurel. She writes a love letter to a dead person and chooses Kurt Cobain because her late sister loved him. Pretty soon, Laurel has a notebook of letters to dead people that she doesn’t share with her teacher. This is a coming-of-age story that deals with grief, abuse, acceptance, love, and family. I recommend this book for fans of “If I Stay” by Gayle Forman.
