Library Expands Movie Conversion Service to Include VHS-C, Hi8 Tapes

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Preserving family videos and home movies is a great way to make sure you don’t lose precious memories of your loved ones.

To help with this task, the James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., recently expanded its service to convert VHS home movie tapes to DVDs to include VHS-C and Hi8 tapes.

The cost is $15 for the conversion of each tape, plus $1 per disc for DVDs and/or $10 for a USB drive, making this a perfect gift for loved ones.

This service is intended for home movies. The library cannot accept copyrighted material for conversion, such as studio-produced movies, recordings from television, or tapes of events that were professionally produced.

To use this service, fill out the online form located in the Services section of the website at https://jvbrown.edu/using-the-library/#vhs and bring it with your tapes to the main Help Desk for processing. Your personal items never leave the library.

What a fantastic service offered by the James V. Brown Library! 🎥👍 It’s so important to preserve those irreplaceable family memories stored on outdated formats like VHS, VHS-C, and Hi8 tapes. Converting these to DVDs or USB drives not only saves these precious moments from being lost but also makes them more accessible for sharing with family and friends. The library’s initiative, especially with its reasonable pricing, is a thoughtful and valuable resource for the community. It’s great to see a library adapting to the digital age and helping to keep family histories alive. This service, combined with the library’s new expanded hours, truly shows how libraries are transforming to meet modern needs. Kudos to the James V. Brown Library for implementing such a meaningful and useful service! 📚💿 #PreservingMemories #LibraryInnovation
