You may have heard of Maggie Smith from her powerful poem, Good Bones, the last line of which inspires the title of this memoir. I recommend this poetic memoir for those in middle-age who have suffered loss of some sort, as Maggie explores the loss of her marriage. Maggie is fiercely protective of her children, so she shares what she can in regard to family, work, and women’s roles. But these short essays are filled with so much emotion that at times I had to put down the book and step away – to evaluate my own feelings about what Maggie was saying. There is hope, though, that no matter what trials we face, we can make something new, something beautiful.
