Hendrix has become one of my favorite modern horror novelists and I was excited to read this book, which gave witches the popular supernatural treatment. It’s 1970 and pregnant teens are sent away to homes like the Wellwood Home in St. Augustine, Fla., where they have their babies in secret, give them up for adoption, and then go home as if nothing had happened. While at the home, Fern gets a mysterious book from the Bookmobile librarian, which changes everything. The girls learn about dark witchcraft and end up joining a coven, which of course, comes with a price. As the girls learn about the power their spells can have, they also learn what really matters to them. A fun read for horror lovers with a trigger warning for sexual assault and child abuse.
