I love a teacher or a journalist who can make history fun, and Mo Rocca does just that in his well-researched and amusing book Mobituaries: Great Lives Worth Reliving. Rocca regales the reader with, of all things: obituaries, including chapters detailing the deaths of careers, dragons, illnesses that no longer plague humanity, black sheep siblings of celebrities – even a eulogy for the station wagon (and other things from the 1970s that could have killed us). Many of his stories are laugh-out-loud and will send you to your phone wondering “where does he find this stuff?!” Whether read in chunks or all at once, you’ll learn something new and chuckle while doing so.
