This is the follow-up book to the author’s popular Fleishman Is in Trouble, and it will resonate with fans of the TV show Succession. The book opens with factory owner and rich Jewish father Carl Fletcher being kidnapped from his Long Island home. His wife, Ruth, is pregnant and home with their two young sons. Carl is eventually returned, but not unharmed: the trauma of the experience haunts every member of the family, even daughter Jenny who was still in the womb for the tragic event. Years later, the adult siblings grapple with their extraordinary wealth and their other other vices: addition, anxiety, anger. When the children are forced to come home for their grandmother’s funeral, they all realize how their family never really left behind that fateful day in 1980. They also discover that the past they thought they knew was built on a lie.
