Cristian Florescu is a 17-year-old Romanian in the 1980s who is blackmailed by the secret police to spy on his family, friends and fellow countrymen. Cristi befrends the son of a U.S. Ambassador in Romania and is able to provide intel to the secret police, but little does he know that no one around him can be trusted. I love Sepetys’s books – they are well researched historical fiction. Even though this is categorized as young adult, it was a fascinating read for this adult.
