I thought this book would be a cute rom-com, and yes it has light hearted moments, but there’s more substance to this story. Teenage Aurora meets Mike while serving coffee at a Minnesota restaurant. She’s so smitten she manifests him into a fake boyfriend to overcome awkwardness around her peers. Fast forward a decade-they meet again; now Aurora is dealing with a toxic parent, panic attacks and food issues. Mike is newly widowed, juggling a pro-hockey career and raising a sassy tween by himself. They become real – not fake – friends and help each other through some tough times – however Aurora knows she must come clean about her schoolgirl crush. This is a sweet story about growth, forgiveness, and moving on from hurt and deception.
