I picked out this book because of the setting. I can’t resist a good story set in Maine, where my family has lived since 1792. The story starts slowly, as a young woman returns to her family’s home and tries to unravel their past. There’s love, of a young woman who sends her husband off to WW2, of a prison camp survivor who risks all the save her children, of people hurt by a harsh world who find they can trust again. But amidst life and loss, we remember that Maine sees the sunrise first of all the American shores. Just a final hint – I’ll never look at a rock the same way again.
