A volunteer is someone who recognizes a need, gives time, effort or talent to a need or cause without benefitting monetarily. Volunteering is a great way to give back to our community and expand your horizons. It is also a great way to have fun, help others, and feel good about yourself!

What a VolunTeen does at the James V Brown Library:

• Assist in children’s or teen programming
• Review books for social media and marketing purposes
• Create displays as needed
• Shelf read
• Clean computer desks
• Dust bookshelves
• Cut scrap paper
• Fill paper & pencil holders
• Light gardening and yard maintenance
• Other tasks that the staff need help with

Requirements for being a VolunTeen:

  • Be 13-18 years of age

  • Mature and positive attitude

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Commit to a specific schedule and arrive promptly at the scheduled time

  • Ability to talk and communicate with library staff and the public

  • Permission from your parent/guardian

Applications are accepted year round, but opportunities are available on a limited basis. Commitments of at least 3 months are preferred.
