This is a satisfying modern retelling of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” Kate Battista teaches nursery school and takes care of her absent-minded scientist father and flighty younger sister. When her father’s research assistant’s visa is about to expire, he and Kate’s father hatch a plan to keep Pyotr in the United States. Kate is not on board with the plan at first, but when she acquiesces, many complications ensue. Funny and smart, with likable characters who all seem to grow as the story progresses.
