Cal Hooper is a retired and divorced Chicago cop who moves to rural Ireland and buys a decrepit farmhouse to renovate. Trey Reddy is a thirteen-year-old from a local outcast family desperate to learn the fate of the nineteen-year-old brother who disappeared some months ago. That’s the setup but French has a lot more to tell us about these characters, about village life in rural Ireland, and the darkness that comes from buried secrets.
