In postwar England, in the Hampshire village of Chawton, a group of unlikely friends band together to save Jane Austen’s cottage as a house museum dedicated to her memory. The widowed village doctor, an unconventional teacher, a young farmer, the spinster daughter of the town’s manor house, a housemaid, a solicitor, a representative of Sotheby’s, and an American movie star are united by their love of Jane Austen’s work. If nothing else, this charming story made me want to re-read all of Austen.
