This is a King novel that harkens back to his earlier works with kids with special talents such as telekinesis and telepathy. 12-year-old Luke Ellis wakes up in a room identical to his own in the Institute, a place in the Maine woods for children with special powers. Luke becomes friends with some kids in the “Front Half,” who worry about what happens to kids when they go the “Back Half,” because they are never seen or heard from again. There’s not too much more I can say without spoiling the plot, so I’ll just say that this is a great book for King fans and a wonderful introduction to King for those who are looking for less horror and gore.
