This book opens when a group of 30-something friends from Oxford get together to ring in the New Year at a private estate in the Scottish Highlands. The group has been getting together for nearly a decade and over the years they have grown and changed, which adds to the friend dynamics.

The trip seems to be going well and they have a great time drinking and partying on New Year’s Eve. Except, the next morning, one of them is dead – and one of the others did it.

The story moves back and forth between characters and timelines as the drama unfolds and it isn’t until the ending that you know who was killed and who is the killer. This is a compelling novel with a setting and cast of characters that easily creates some paranoia, along with the necessary red herrings. It is reminiscent of Agatha Christie-style novels and is sure to be hit for mystery fans.
