Located on a remote island in Vancouver, the Glass Hotel, the Hotel Caiette, is where all the threads of this remarkable story come together. Inspired by the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme, Mandel imagines the lives and fortunes of people caught up in the web of a similar scheme, perpetrated by Jonathan Alkaitis. Alkaitis owns the Glass Hotel, and in the course of one fateful night, nearly all the key characters in the book come together there. This story of survival takes us through the underground electronica clubs of Toronto, homeless camps, a federal prison, a container ship at sea, connecting threads of the story. I loved this and could not put it down.
