I just finished reading Sawbones by the prolific western writers William Johnstone with his nephew, J. A. Johnstone. Westerns are not usually my first pick for pleasure reading but the synopsis on the back cover intrigued me.

Southern Dr. Samuel Knight has just been released from the Yankee prison in Elmira, N.Y. He’s hungry, alone and walking to Texas to reunite with his wife and try to begin a new start in life. Many misadventures along the way as well as heartbreak and anger upon arriving home test Dr. Knight in ways we could only imagine.
