Kacey and Mickey grow up poor in a neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis; their mother was lost to addiction when they were young. Kacey is now an addict living on the streets, while Mickey has become a police woman working in the neighborhood. When Kacey disappears at the same time a string of unsolved murders of young women becomes apparent, Mickey is obsessed with finding her. The novel moves back and forth between the sisters’ childhood and present day. This is both a satisfying police procedural and a family story.
