Did you know your local library has thousands of eBooks and e-audiobooks available that you can borrow for free using your mobile device? There’s a new way to access OverDrive through the Lycoming County Library System that’s designed to make borrowing and enjoying eBooks and e-audiobooks from the James V. Brown Library easier than ever.

“Libby” is the new mobile app that provides intuitive navigation of the OverDrive e-book and audiobook lending system and a streamlined first-time user experience. The borrowing and downloading process has been simplified, and a unified bookshelf automatically displays all of your loans and holds.

Library customers may use Libby in place of, or in addition to, the OverDrive app. Patrons may also use the OverDrive app exclusively, if they wish. Any e-books and audiobooks that you borrow through the OverDrive app or the library’s website will show up in Libby.

Libby can be installed from the Apple App Store or Google Play as a free app. It is currently compatible with iOS 9 or higher and Andoid 4.4 or higher.

Benefits of using Libby include:

·         Sign in to multiple libraries, with one or more cards for each library.

·         Download books and audiobooks for offline reading, or stream them to save space.

·         If you prefer reading on your Kindle, Libby can send your library books to it.

·         All your loans and holds are consolidated on a single shelf.

·         Keep track of your reading history in the Activity tab.

·         Positions, bookmarks, and notes are kept in sync across your devices.

·         Sample any book with a tap — nothing to download or delete.

·         Try a zoomable graphic novel, or a picture book with readalong audio.

If you have questions about using OverDrive or Libby, contact Sue Mayshock, the audiovisual specialist at the James V. Brown Library, by calling 570-326-0536. One-on-one appointments to work with your device are available.

This is one of the many ways the library supports the PA Forward Initiative through providing information literacy opportunities for learning. When Pennsylvania residents know how to use current technology to improve their education and enhance their skills, they can fully participate in a digital society.

The Brown Library is part of a national “Libraries Transform” effort to increase awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways in which libraries are transforming to meet the information needs of their users.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at www.jvbrown.edu.
