If you have a new iPad or tablet, did you know you can use it to download free books from the library? The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., along with the 39 other public libraries of the North Central Library District have thousands of free titles available through OverDrive, an online site that offers audiobooks and e-books.
The OverDrive site at https://ebranch2go.overdrive.com was recently updated to provide a faster, easier digital library experience. Enhancements include new ways to find titles, the whole digital library on any device, more ways to sign in, easy-to-customize lending periods, improvements to placing and retrieving holds, and instant recommendations for your library.
“The site is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to keep up with readers’ demands,” said Sue Mayshock, North Central Library District’s audio-visual specialist. “We want patrons to visit us, but they can choose to download a bestseller to their device and enjoy the electronic version without leaving their home.”
Mayshock also offers technology assistance with your device by appointment at the Brown Library by calling 570-326-0536.
This is one of the many ways the library supports the PA Forward Initiative through providing information literacy opportunities for learning. When Pennsylvania residents know how to use current technology to improve their education and enhance their skills, they can fully participate in a digital society. The Brown Library is part of a national effort to increase awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways in which libraries are transforming to meet the digital and technological information needs of their users.
The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at www.jvbrown.edu.
