Craft time isn’t just for kids. Did you know that crafting in groups brings people together for social interaction while teaching them new skills?

The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., has opportunities for crafting and learning with “Transform It – DIY @ the Library” programs each month. Some projects encourage recycling or upcycling old materials while others just provide an opportunity to be creative and try something new. Libraries continue to be a place of transformation – whether it is through books, ideas, knowledge or physical objects.

The next series of crafting sessions will take place in January and February. January features and upcycled book project and February’s project is iris-folded Valentine’s Day cards. Registration is required because all supplies are provided. The next programs are:

  • January 96 to 7:30 p.m.
  • January 1010 a.m. to noon
  • February 6 – 6 to 7:30 p.m.
  • February 710 a.m. to noon

Both sessions will meet in the Lowry Room on the third floor of the Welch Children’s Wing. Visit to register or call 570-326-0536.

Also, if crafting isn’t your thing, try our “Color Transformation” coloring club for adults. The group meets again at:

  • January 121:30 to 3 p.m.
  • January 25 – 6 to 7:30 p.m.
  • February 91:30 to 3 p.m.
  • February 226 to 7:30 p.m.

Both coloring groups meet on the fourth floor SeniorTek area. Coloring for adults is a fun and relaxing trend. Bring your own pencils and books or use the library’s supplies. Engage your artistic side and join us. No registration is requested for Coloring Club.

Both programs support the PA Forward Initiative by providing social and civic literacy opportunities for learning and highlighting the transformative nature of public libraries within a community. The Brown Library is part of a national effort to increase awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways in which libraries are transforming to meet the needs of their users.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at
