WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Chair yoga will return in February and March at the James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St.

Alicia Koch will facilitate the weekly program on Tuesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the third-floor vintage meeting area.

Koch has been using natural healing modalities for herself and family since 2000. She studied Western Herbalism at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts and received her Yoga teacher training certification in 2006. She has incorporated natural remedies, mindfulness exercises and yoga in her daily living and enjoys sharing her practices with the community.

Some of the benefits of chair yoga include: Improved strength, flexibility, and concentration. An overall feeling of positivity, including stress reduction and pain management.

These classes are geared toward adults who are seated for most of the day. Participants do not need to change out of their clothing or bring a yoga mat. This is a low-impact activity.

No matter what your background or lifestyle, yoga can help to shift your awareness of the connection you have to yourself and to others around you.

In these Tuesday sessions we will explore physical postures seated or using a chair, breath-work, and meditation.  No need to change your clothes if you are coming from work.  These classes can serve as a midday respite and reset your mental and emotional state before continuing your day.  Open to all levels of experience.

This program is one of the many ways the James V. Brown Library supports the PA Forward initiative by providing health literacy opportunities for learning.
