WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., recently transitioned to being a fine-free library

This change affects items owned by the Brown Library, which includes Links, Bookmobile, and Storymobile books, music and DVDs. Brown Library hotspot portable wi-fi devices will still accrue fines at the rate of $3.00 per day. DVDs still cost 25 cents to check out but will not accrue overdue fines.

Items borrowed from other libraries within the Lycoming County Library System are still subject to those libraries’ overdue fines.

“This is a great way to remove barriers for library patrons,” said Barbara S. McGary, Executive Director of the library. “This is the right investment at the right time and it really helps us be a part of the solution to eliminate the disparity of poverty in our community.”

Fees will still be charged for lost, damaged and never-returned items. If you still would like to support the library, please donate online at https://jvbrown.edu/support-the-library/.

The library supports the PA Forward statewide initiative, which believes that when Pennsylvania residents improve their command of five types of literacy – basic, information, civic and social, health and financial – they can achieve greater success as students, parents, employees, consumers, as citizens. Libraries are community centers of information, technology and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all of our citizens.

For your safety, all returned materials are quarantined for three days.

The James V. Brown Library is open for browsing and holds pick up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. To place a hold, visit www.jvbrown.edu or call 570-326-0536 during the library’s operating hours. The library also is open for public computer usage and for services such as printing, faxing, copying and scanning. Walk-in passport services are now available.
