I find it difficult to explain why I really enjoy Sharon Shinn’s books, as they tend to be rather dense. Usually I can’t get into similar reads and put the book down quickly. Not so with Angelica and the rest of the Samaria series The world building is excellent, a sort of alternative future with a rich mix of technology and mysticism, and her characters are complex, flawed but still endearing. Her plot touches on topics that parallel and are relevant to real life. I think her real genius lies in meshing everything together. It is a seamless read for me, both engaging and thought-provoking, and set in a world that I would really like to visit.
