Bill Bryson has been recommended to me by several friends and I recently had a chance to listen to A Walk in the Woods audiobook. It was great. Bryson gives an autobiographical account of his attempt to hike the 2,100 mile Appalachian Trail. The book was full of trail history and information as well as his often humorous accounts of his adventure. While I enjoyed the book, it occasionally got a bit bogged down in history and left me anxious for him to pick up the story of his hike with his long-lost friend Steven Katz. The reader was wonderful and I was genuinely surprised when the credits played to find out it was not read by Bryson himself. It definitely gave me a fresh perspective and appreciation as I took a walk in the woods this weekend.
