The 12th entry in the Three Pines/Chief Inspector Gamache series finds Gamache taking over the corrupt Surete Academy, bringing along son-in-law Jean Guy Beauvoir as his second-in-command. When an instructor of the bad old academy is murdered in his rooms, almost everyone is under suspicion, including four students and Gamache himself. Back in Three Pines, the discovery of an old hand drawn map of the village connects current residents to the tragedies of the Great War, and reveals more about the history of the Village. Every book in this series goes a little deeper, and is more satisfying. If you haven’t read them, start at the beginning with Still Life, and enjoy.
