Have you ever wondered why some books make good book club picks? Try Michelle Obama’s compelling autobiography, “Becoming.”
She draws a marvelous picture of growing up in Chicago’s South Side, learning from her family that you can achieve anything if you work hard and persist. That philosophy led her to Princeton and law school, before returning to Chicago where she met another young lawyer, Barack Obama. They navigated the rushing waters of dual career partnership and very different backgrounds to unite in a common goal of working for others while raising a family. Obama doesn’t discuss much of politics, but she gives an interesting perspective of living in the White House while trying to determine her changing role from activist to supporter.
It will be interesting to see where her journey leads, now that she is free to make a midnight sandwich in her own kitchen again.
