Meet RubyRuby PhotoRuby L. Brown is the official rabbit of the James V. Brown Library. Did you know there are almost 50 different kinds of rabbits?

Ruby is a lop-eared rabbit which means her ears point down instead of up. She is a very kind, loving rabbit.

Most afternoons you can find Ruby in the Children's Wing enjoying stories children read to her.

Ruby is a lagomorph (this is her middle name and her biological classification) but we just call her Bunny.

Ruby's Family Tree

Kingdon: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Lagomorpha
Family: Leporidae
Genes: Oryctolagus
Species: Cuniculus
The lop-eared rabbit is very easy to identify because it has very long floppy ears. That is part of what makes them so cute and cuddly. A rabbit will groom itself in order to remain very clean. This is part of who they are but you will need to brush your rabbit daily to get out any loose hair. You should also know that they can be litter trained just like you would do with a cat.
