The Family Place 1-2-3 Play With Me . . .
program is designed for children ages 1, 2, and 3 years old, with a parent or caregiver. The goal of the program is for the library to become a community hub for healthy child and family development. The program consists of five sessions that last an hour. Children will be able to engage in activities that help strengthen their motor skills and social skills, as well as encourage early literacy. During each session we will have a special guest that will act as our community resource professional. This person will walk around the room and talk one on one with each parent and caregiver about their specialty and also try to answer any parenting questions that the parents and caregivers might have. Children get a chance to play with other children and parents get a chance to share experiences and concerns.
The Family Place Four and More program
A five week school readiness program for parents and children 4 and 5 years old who are not yet in kindergarten. The workshop focuses on Print Awareness, Fine Motor Skills, and Letter Knowledge. Each session has a make it-take it activity and each child receives a book.
How does Family Place impact early learning?
By encouraging parents and caregivers to read to children for at least 15 minutes each day and providing age-appropriate reading materials, the James V. Brown Library can help strengthen literacy throughout Lycoming County.
